Summary
In Chapter 2, "Majnoun and Benjy," Majnoun wakes up in a new home. Realizing his pain, he suddenly remembers being attacked. He feels there is no point in living. Two voices approach, exclaiming at his consciousness. Per the man's suggestion, the woman names Majnoun Lord Jim. Six months later, Majnoun is largely healed. The couple adopts and cares for him. More months pass and gradually Majnoun begins learning their human language. One day when the woman asks Majnoun if he is hungry and he responds in English, she faints. Disturbed by Majnoun's behavior, she sends him to a hospital where he is drugged and alone. Three days later, she picks him up, apologizing.
