Chapter 15 Summary

Dan had a wife and five children at one time and they lived in the village of My Le. The eldest was a girl and very beautiful. His brother fought for the VC and was killed one day. Dan knew he would die and believed he should have stayed home and taken care of his family. One day two soldiers come to Dan's hootch and give him his brother's gun. They tell him he needs to come and fight, taking his brother's place in the war. Dan tells them he needs to take care of his family and that he had just planted rice. The men do not care. They tell him to say goodbye to his wife. He had no choice.

Once he starts fighting, he becomes good at firing the gun. The soldiers see that he is good with the people...
