Chapter 10 Summary
That night the men head toward Liberty Bridge. They other men had referred to Liberty Bridge as Skate City, meaning it was a piece of cake compared to the bush. There was hot food, they could bathe in the river, and it had toilets you could sit down on to use. The bridge was nonfunctioning now, but the French had built it years ago to reach An Hoa from Da Nang. Since the bridge is not functioning, the men have to cross on foot and the vehicles are pulled by barges one at a time.
Hodges and his men cross the second bridge, which is concrete, and head toward the southern compound. It is referred to as the Bridge compound and is the focal point for the infantry battalion. The men get settled in to the tents assigned to them and later go...
