The Long Kloof is the setting where Fiela and the Komoetie family raise Benjamin before he is taken away by government census workers.

Barta and Elias' Home

Barta and Elias' home is the setting where Benjamin lives after he is removed from Fiela's home. They live in the forest and work as beam builders.

Knysna

Knysna is the setting where the magistrate lives. Fiela travels here by foot in order to plead her case to get Benjamin back.

Seaside

The seaside is the setting where Benjamin escapes to to work on a boat and attempt to find himself.

Cave

The cave is the setting where Benjamin runs to when he learns that he is not Barta and Elias' son.
