Summary
Benjamin has been living with Barta and Elias for the past five days even as he hopes for Fiela to come and rescue him. He does not like to be called Lukas, but he slowly warms up to his sister. Nina agrees to help him find a way through to forest to get back to Fiela. Elias begins to get frustrated with Lukas’ refusal to speak and thinks about how his son can help out the family financially. Elias is suspicious of Nina and Lukas, and when Elias’ neighbor, Malie, comes over to talk to him, he gets distracted and misses Lukas and Nina running off.
Fiela makes her way to Knysna by her second day of traveling. She wonders how she will convince the magistrate to let her take Benjamin back home, but she convinces herself that fairness will prevail. Fiela’s...
