Summary
Fiela wakes in the morning and begins her morning tasks with the goal of mating her two ostriches despite worries from Selling that they might not like each other. The children and Fiela attempt to force Pollie and Kicker together to mate when the two government employees return to the house. Fiela begins to panic, thinking back to when Benjamin asked her about why she was so fearful of the government workers when they last visited the house. He asked her also why his family is black when he is white, and Fiela felt as though her time with Benjamin was running out.
The government employees inform Fiela that the magistrate has requested to meet Benjamin, and she counters by saying that the magistrate must come to her house to see him, but that she will not bring him anywhere else. They claim...
