Part One, The Garden of Forking Paths, Tlon, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius Summary
The narrator is discussing mirrors with a group of friends when one man mentions a quote from a section of an encyclopedia covering the country of Uqbar. When the narrator and his friends go back to the encyclopedia to find the quote, there is no Uqbar. Later, however, the man who originally quoted the phrase brings his copy of the encyclopedia to show his friends. In this copy there is in fact a description of the country of Uqbar. There is also the quote about mirrors that originally brought this to the attention of the narrator.
