Summary
Chapter 26 opens with a lamentation as a survivor of the Night of Knives wonders if they will forever mourn the dead.
Serapio meets Maaka on the bridge between Odo and Otsu. As Maaka reveals that Okoa did not publicly say who killed Chaiya, Serapio knows he only spared Okoa because of a familial bond. Maaka wistfully recalls Okoa's revolutionary father, Ayawa, who was sacrificed. Serapio tells Maaka to lead him to old records as Serapio transforms. They pass the Great House to his mother's old compound and Serapio imagines them dying as the crow god refused to help. None of the current residents remember Saaya and Maaka takes Serapio inside. However, as he feels there is nothing left of his family he is overcome by panic. Serapio frantically questions Maaka, only to realize that no one in Tova sees him as Serapio, only...
