Summary

Chapter 16 opens with a Teek saying that sharks still have to sleep.

Iktan and Xiala travel down the Tovasheh and through the dark and dangerous portion of the Maw. Eventually, they make it to an encampment as the sun shines down. Iktan introduces Ziha, the second daughter of Golden Eagle's matron and asks Xiala if Serapio is capable of slaughter. When she refuses to answer, Xiala asks if she is a prisoner. Iktan says all of them are to fate and on the same side. Xiala disagrees, but follows Them to camp as Iktan refuses to acknowledge Ziha's authority. As she leaves, Iktan explains that Ziha is spoiled with power because of her mother. She wants Serapio to die because he killed Abah and ruined the coup. However, Iktan refuses to forgive Abah for killing xir's friend. Xe admits xe likes Xiala and...
