Summary
Amanda's story continues in this section. While watching all of the children cross the road, Amanda notices that they all look like David, in that they have "no eyelashes" (158) and "scaly skin" (158). After noticing the nurses following the children, Amanda gets out of her car to ask them for some water, but as she gets out, her vision starts to disappear and all she can see is whiteness. She yells at Nina, ordering her to run to a nearby house and ask someone to call "Daddy" (159).
The story causes Amanda to remember Nina in present day, so she asks David where Nina is. David responds by telling Amanda that Carla visited her shortly after she was admitted into the hospital.
