Greenwich Village
Greenwich Village is the place where Lillian finds her first apartment in New York. Shortly after arriving in the city, Lillian finds an apartment in the village with her new acquaintance, Patricia. Because Lillian is unused to New York and tends towards introversion, she spends most of her time outside class and her photography walks, either in her room or developing photos in the darkroom-converted bathroom.
Lillian's time in Greenwich Village grows tense and trying, however, as her relationship with Patricia rapidly dissolves. Sam Decker's disappearance from her life, Patricia's lack of understanding, and her longing for prolonged solitude catalyze Lillian's move out.
