Claire Danvers

This is the leading female character (along with the vampire leader Amelie). Claire is a super-intelligent, sixteen-year-old college student with aspirations to go to Caltech or MIT, but whose parents send her to Texas Prairie University in Morganville—an hour's drive from their home—for a year, hoping it will be a"safe place" before she makes the transition to the wider world.
