Chapters 9-10 Summary

Eve sees her brother taken off in handcuffs, but she doesn't seem to have any emotions left, given all she's been through recently: the death of her father and the revelation that Monica was taking Michael to the ball. She falls asleep next to Michael, who pulls her close to him. Claire lies next to Shane, who lovingly strokes her hair. The next day—Friday—Claire goes to class as usual. In the restroom, she overhears Monica, Gina, and Jennifer discussing their lipstick shades at the sinks. Monica suddenly handcuffs Claire's wrist to one of the toilet stalls as she and the other two girls leave the restroom, laughing derisively. This will cause Claire to miss an all-important history test. Claire extracts her cell phone from her backpack and calls the police. She reaches Officer Morrill—Monica's brother...
