The Highway

The highway is where the story begins and some of the most crucial plot events take place. It is the location where the father’s accident takes place. Throughout the story, the narrator often returns to a description of the father’s wreckage off the side of the highway. Moreover, at the end of the story, the son enters his dead father’s car and rides along the highway discussing life and death.

The Hotel in Puerto Vallarta

The hotel is where the son first learns about his father’s accident. He is on holiday here with his girlfriend, and the news of his father’s death leads him into a confused state of conflicting emotions. His love for his girlfriend and sadness because of the news of his father battle each other as he struggles to come to terms with his thoughts.
