Summary
The narrator describes a red car with a “crushed” roof and “shattered” (105) windows. There is dried blood all over the car, and there is a photograph of the narrator and his father trapped inside the car. A note that was inside the glove compartment gets blown away by the wind. At the compound where the wrecked car is being kept, children touch the father’s dried blood, scaring each other by saying that he will “come back to eat you” (106).
At the scene of the initial wreckage, a police officer notices the father in the destroyed car and calls for help, but the father feels pain as he begins to fade away.
