Zwischenraum
Zwischenraum is the limbo-like spiritual plane between death and the real afterlife, where the narrator, Jacob Grimm, currently resides. It does not have any physical differences from the natural world, and it appears that the individuals stuck there exist on a different dimension in the same human world. They can have very little real effect on the world itself, as they can only affect the wind, as Jacob does when he moves the rocking chair in the basement. He has somewhat free reign to travel about before meeting Jeremy, but this is not in the tradition sense of a ghost that can walk through walls as he has to follow Blix out of the dungeon to be able to help the children within.
