Summary
This section of the novel begins with Ona visiting Flor at her apartment and helping her pick out a dress for the wake. The two bond over a shared appreciation for clothing, and help each other decide what to wear to the event. While this is happening, Flor grapples with the impending wake, feeling like she is “planning her own funeral.” She begins to cope with some negative feelings such as grief and sorrow for the first time since her premonition.
In the next chapter, Pastora meets Rafa’s mistress when she comes into the department store that Pastora works at. The woman asks to use the bathroom at first, and later asks for some water. Pastora says she has to buy something use the bathroom, although she internally remarks she could have done these things for the woman if she wanted. She...
