Summary

Marco continues to hurt his hand further in Chapter 24, but he remains committed to practicing because he now views himself as a baller. When Marco does not understand what a moving screen is, he notes that unlike other kids, Isaac never makes fun of him for his confusion. When Isaac tells him to roll, Marco gets down on the ground and starts rolling. Isaac “stands there blinking” (156). In Chapter 25 Isaac tells Marco that his roll is good, but he realizes that Marco is not learning to play basketball any more quickly than Isaac learned to play chess. Ama comes out and says she is taking Abuelita to the doctor because the elderly woman is not feeling well. When Isaac calls his father at his mother’s urging, Isaac can tell that his father is drunk, so he goes to Marco’s house...
