Richard "Dodge" Forthrast/Egdod
Dodge is the protagonist and titular character of Fall; Or Dodge in Hell. At the start of the novel, he is the wealthy and successful head of a video game company based in Seattle, and enjoys a close relationship with his niece Zula, and her daughter Sophia. At the beginning of chapter 3, Dodge dies unexpectedly during a routine medical procedure, and his family learns that his will stipulates his body and/or his brain must be preserved by the most advanced technology available. This sets off the rest of the events of the novel.
Dodge is frequently referenced and remembered by other characters in the novel, but he does not actually appear again in the narrative until midway through the novel, when Sophia 'wakes him up'.
