Summary
In Chapter Fifteen, June to September 1916, Lev arrives in America and, three months later, is working in the stables of a hotel owned by Josef Vyalov. While they had cheated him initially by sending him to Cardiff, their false documents and name got Lev into the country and a job. Lev has also become mostly fluent in English. Furthermore, Lev has a new, thieving friend, Nick who sells him cigarettes. Lev then sells them all for a profit. He thinks about Grigori but does not believe he can save enough money yet to bring him to America. A man approaches him and says that the cigarettes were stolen from Vyalov and the two get into a fight and Lev leaves after beating him up and tells him that Vyalov should be more polite.
