Summary
In Chapter Five, April 1914, Walter dreams of one day living in the embassy as he believes being an ambassador is the highest calling to serve. This is the only thing that he and his father, Otto, agree on. Walter thinks that Germany can learn great things from other countries, but Otto thinks Germany is fine on its own. They even disagree on weaponry, with Walter believing they need machine guns while Otto says that old fashioned rifles are the best. At the palace, where Walter briefly meets with the king, Otto talks with the Mexican ambassador, Diaz, about the civil dispute between the rebellion and the Mexican government.
