Summary
Fred walks along the beach on the way to where he knows Dinky is staying and chastising himself for continuing to try to build their relationship. He suddenly has a vision of his mother Algonqua, talking about how hard she tried to build a relationship with Lester (Fred’s father). He also has an encounter with a strange young man who insists they are meant for each other, even without knowing anything about Fred. As he extricates himself from the young man, Fred suddenly realizes that he does not really know that much about Dinky.
In conversation with a friend, Yootha reveals her plans to venture outside her popularity with the faggots, saying she will always belong with them but must be herself.
