Lemonade

The lemonade Dan wants is symbolic of the past. Dan tells the narrator that the lemonade from Berrywood reminded him of the war. The narrator wishes that she could convince the nurses to give him the drink in the present. She knows that he is dying and wants him to be able to remember the better parts of his past before his death.

FaceTime

FaceTime is symbolic of both connection and disconnection. While the application does allow the characters to talk to one another during the lockdown, it also augments their separation from one another. The screens they must use to communicate are barriers between them.

Power Outage

The power outage at the short story's end is symbolic of grief. Seemingly begotten of Dan's death, the power outage forces the narrator to sit in her sorrow and loss. The outage makes the rest of the world...
