Summary
Chapter 6 is titled “Maddox.” Kendra wakes excited the following morning. She and Seth had stayed up late, talking about their experience. She rushes to the window and is disappointed that she sees only butterflies, until she remembers that she has not yet had milk today. She goes downstairs and discovers that Lena is hanging wind chimes. They had taken them down because Kendra and Seth might have become “suspicious to see hummingbirds playing music” (86). Kendra watches a butterfly that she knows is really a fairy play a melody on the chimes. Inside, Kendra asks Lena to tell her about the boathouse. Lena says a caretaker named Patton Burgess had become enamored with one of the naiads, which was unusual because most people could tell no difference between them. Patton puts boats on the lake and built the boathouse so he could be closer...
