Summary
The next day, Saeed’s father goes for a walk in order to give Saeed and Nadia privacy as they set off. They bring one backpack each, and Saeed tucks a photo of his parents into his clothing. At the rendezvous point, which is a house that has been converted into a dentist office, a militant-looking, gun-slinging man takes their payment and tells them to sit. When the agent points to a supply closet door, Saeed decides Nadia should go first. Nadia, followed by Saeed, passes through the door.
They emerge near a seemingly deserted beach. A pale-skinned man shoos them away from a beach club, and they make their way towards a refugee camp filled with people of “many colors and hues but mostly falling within a band of brown” (106).
