Summary

Chapter 3, entitled “Amy’s Brain,” opens in Zuckerman’s hotel room. He receives a message from Amy Bellette, who was told of Zuckerman’s whereabouts by Kliman. Zuckerman calls her back, and they discuss their lives. Amy says that she lived with Lonoff from 1956 until he died of leukemia in 1961, but they never married. Amy took care of him as his health declined, and he died in his bed. Amy says that Kliman is a pest and that she does not want any biography written about Lonoff, as it would be an insult to her memory of him. Zuckerman assures her that he will do everything he can to stop Kliman. Amy says that Lonoff’s ex-wife, Hope, is currently living in an assisted living home, as she is quite old and has Alzheimer’s disease. Amy says that she herself has had brain...
