Summary
In Chapter 9, 16 months prior, Falk and Gemma enjoyed their drinks at the “Southbank bar” (73). Gemma revealed that her husband Dean had died five years prior. She now had custody of his 17-year-old Joel. She shared more stories from her past. She was now the festival manager. Falk shared his past experiences, too. Having recently been promoted, he was constantly busy. The two got along. They kissed outside the bar.
In Chapter 10, Falk studied the festival scene while Raco caught up with an old friend, Naomi. He noticed Dwyer. He saw Joel, remembering what Gemma had said about his grief. When Raco returned, he told Falk Dwyer’s daughter had died when she “Drank too much . . . and suffocated on her own vomit” (85).
