Summary
In Chapter 27, Jin tried to decide what to tell Philip about Lidija. A call from her father interrupted her thoughts. Her mother had “slid off the hiking path” in a storm and had been hospitalized (165). Jin booked a ticket to Seoul, insisting that Philip stay behind. They argued briefly about the trip and the fight with Lidija. En route to Seoul, Jin thought about her mom’s fall. She ran to her side when she reached the hospital.
In Chapter 28, the kisaeng visited the shaman again and asked for a love potion for High-hat to convince him to help her (168).
In Chapter 29, Jin’s mother had suffered “a slight jolt to her head” (169). They sat together and talked about the triptychs, “politics, Korea’s past, its glories” (169). In her hotel later, Jin called Philip and asked if his friend Itzel Gil could examine...
