Summary

In Chapter 5, on the way to their friends Sahaj Jain and Julian Noh’s wedding, Philip wanted to talk about his and Jin’s fight. Jin put it off. Instead, she read a note from Nigel Hugh, who was “curating the group show” she had agreed to be in (38). Unsure what to contribute, she closed the note and reflected on her conversations with Lidija.

Jin and Philip attended the wedding reception. Jin’s friends were thrilled to hear that she had met Lidija. One friend, Nalini, shared rumors of why Lidija really quit dancing. Jin tried asking Nalini more questions, as she was still deciding if she should take Lidija’s headshots. Meanwhile, she reflected on her parents’ regard for Philip and their marriage. They believed she was “burn[ing] down [her] life” by marrying him, but nothing “had gone up in flames...
