Chapter 9 Summary

Hope Hubris takes Amber and Hopie to the zoo to see the Mastodon there, and he describes the steps that had to be taken to make an inhabitable environment for it. When the three are approaching the Mastodon's environment, Hope recognizes a laser spot on the ground, and realizes that this is an assassination attempt. He grabs Amber and jumps into the moat around the mastodon's cage, and when he pulls her out soaking wet, he recognizes her as the anonymous woman. When he gets the feelie chip back, Hope records a fantasy in which they recognize each other, and she acknowledges that she is Amber after all.

When Megan begins to criticize the Tyrancy, Hope arranges a Latin tour, to see how the poor people live. He takes a ship into the RedSpot, which is equivalent to Mexico, and tours the palaces...
