Summary
In Chapter 32, “July,” Ava caught up with Peggy. She alluded to Edith, but did not explain their relationship. When she talked to Tom, she “told him about Edith,” identifying her as “an important person” in her life (153). In school, Ava’s students asked about her personal life, but she revealed nothing, considering how their parents would respond to her relationship with Edith.
In Chapter 33, Ava and Edith met up with Edith’s friends for Edith’s birthday. Feeling incapable of contributing to their conversations, Ava left after dessert.
