Summary
In Chapter 22, Ava had her students write haikus. She liked her student Katie’s approach to the assignment, remembering her own childhood sensibilities.
Ava talked to Peggy about Dublin, her family, and politics. The conversation made Ava “miss discussing politics openly” (107). She did not have to worry “about how to sound clever” (108). She considered telling Peggy about Edith, but decided against.
In Chapter 23, Ava and Edith “went to an art exhibition” (109). Ava admired Edith’s appearance, wondering what it meant that she thought she was pretty. Afterwards, they went to Julian’s to make dinner. Ava lied and told Edith Julian was simply her flatmate. She then asked Edith questions in an attempt to discern if Edith liked men or women. They continued talking while watching a movie. Edith was confused and curious about Julian. Later, Edith stalked Julian and Edith online.
