Summary
The head of the Redbelters, Big Columbus, tries to recruit members in a restaurant near Claude’s school. Grandma dismisses this effort as a futile attempt to recreate the Black Panther movement, but Paul is more supportive. A number of Paul’s classmates stop attending class to participate in the Redbelters, prompting the principal to hold an assembly to address the issue. At the assembly, Claude meets a classmate named Janice, and they bond over the fact that neither of them has any friends or parents.
Janice and her aunt and uncle, Jimmy and Annette, come to Claude’s house for dinner. Alone in Claude’s room, he and Janice tell preposterous stories about how their parents died, and Janice kisses Claude.
