Summary
Chapter 26 is set three years prior to present day. Carlos had gotten a prescription for his headaches but the blackout strengthened his fear that if he woke from his fugue he would not want Julian and Marcus. He continued to refuse to go to a doctor by a neuropsychologist with whom Natalya consulted said that Carlos would not necessarily have any control over when he would wake from his fugue. Carlos begged Natalya to marry him but she refused. Carlos finally realized Natalya feared he would regain his memory and leave her to be with Aimee.
Chapter 27 returns to the present day where James notices that Natalya is unusually quiet during dinner with Marcus, Julian, Gale, and Claire. He tries to help Natalya clean up afterward but she sends him to the lanai with a beer. Misinterpreting Natalya’s silence James asks her...
