Summary
Chapter 3 returns to the present time as James walks into the conference room to collect his sons and hears Julian telling Marc that James is not their real father. Julian has been shooting spitwads at the window while Marc was drawing and making a mess with his bag of chips. James makes his sons clean up their messes and makes a point to compliment Marc’s drawing. Regardless, the kids still avoid him.
James takes the children to stay the night at what was his childhood home. The house has been empty since his father died and his mother moved to an upscale retirement community. Julian and Marc are both still angry with him since he sold their house and his gallery in Puerto Escondido. He tries to kiss Marc goodnight but the boy pulls away so James just ruffles his hair, not...
