Love must always be pursued, argues Kerry Lonsdale in Everything We Keep. Love is an important and essential part of life, and when true love is found, it must be valued. This is certainly the case for both Aimee and Ian in the novel.

Aimee grows up alongside James. Each year she grows closer to him, and in high school, outright falls in love with him. They spend all the time together that they can, and plan on getting married after college and raising a family. James is willing to pursue love to whatever extent it must be pursued, traveling to Mexico to confront the corrupt Phil in order to protect not only his family, but his future wife.
