Los Gatos
Los Gatos, California, is the setting for the first half of the novel. While little is said directly about Los Gatos, it is clear that it is a upper-middle to lower-upper class area, for Aimee’s family owns and operates a restaurant (that later goes into debt) while James and his family, owners of a multilmillion dollar company, move into the same area. Los Gatos appears to be primarily rural-suburban, for Aimee and James live close enough to walk to one another’s houses, but also live close enough to the country to be able to go hang out, make love in, and get engaged in, a meadow.
