Aimee Tierney is the 27-year-old narrator and principal protagonist of the novel Everything We Keep by Kerry Lonsdale who believes her fiancé, James, has been killed on a trip to Mexico. Passive, quiet, and dependent on James, Aimee is devastated, but her Mom, Dad, and friends Kristen and Nadia, rally to her side. They all urge her to mourn but to move on with her life. Aimee decides to do so by opening a coffee shop.
At the same time, however, Aimee begins receiving clues and visions revealing James to be alive and living in Mexico. At the same time, Aimee meets and begins to fall for a photographer named Ian.
