Chapter 1 – It is July. Instead of getting married as planned, 26-year-old Aimee Tierney must contend with her fiancé, 29-year-old James’s funeral. Aimee is devastated. The funeral cannot be open-casket, as James’s body, found underwater, was too decomposed by then. Among those in attendance are Aimee’s parents, Mom (Cathy) and Dad (Hugh), James’s mother, Claire Donato, James’s brother, Thomas, and James’s cousin, Phil. Aimee explains she is not attending the reception, but only the burial. Thomas hands Aimee a check for $227,000, noting that James’s will was to be updated when he was married.
