Summary

Daniel decides to share more stories from his life in Oklahoma. Every day is “the same story” (137). He stays up late every night so he will oversleep and miss the bus. His mom drives him to school. He gets in trouble for being late without a note. Sometimes he does not have lunch money and goes hungry. The kids make fun of him for how he looks and smells. At recess, he plays with his only friend, Kyle. They only hang out at school, because Daniel lives “in apartments” (145). After school, Daniel walks home on the main road. When he gets home, he makes himself food. When his mom gets home she cooks an elaborate dinner even though she is tired.
