Summary
In “Autopsy Room Four,” Howard Cottrell, the first-person narrator, hears the squeak of wheels and realizes he is in the hospital. He feels fine, but he is scared because he does not know why he might be in the hospital. He wonders why he cannot see or talk. As he thinks back, he remembers that it is a Saturday. The last thing he remembers is playing golf.
When Howard is lifted suddenly without warning, he tries to speak, but cannot. He hears three people, one a doctor, talking about him. He wonders if he is dead as he hears a voice telling another person that Howard was found near the bushes off the golf course. One of the three people is interested only in the fact that Howard looks like Michael Bolton. The man grabs Howard’s jaw and makes it appear...
