Summary
The last two chapters of the novel follow Namin’s narrative. She makes it to the end of the semester with considerable effort. After her last final, she falls asleep for nearly an entire day. When woken up by Busan Mother, who had cared for a crying Dori while Namin slept, Namin realizes she has missed her language exam. She leaves a letter on campus for her professor, begging to reschedule.
That night, Namin’s mother suggests she take the next semester off so she can help more around the house. This causes Namin to cry and exclaim, “Fling him somewhere… Just don’t fling him at me” (329).
