Summary
This chapter brings us back to Jisun’s narrative. It is a month since her arrest. In that month she has been “following the rules drummed into her since childhood” (195). She gets up early, goes to campus five days a week, and sticks to a regular extracurricular schedule. She thinks of Peter often, half expecting an apology note from him in the mail. His words from the last time they spoke still sting: “You’re the real saint. Topless and all. Congratulations, Jisun” (197). She feels blindsided by his patriarchy, especially when she assumed they both viewed each other as equals.
Jisun makes an appointment with her father at his office for a “business matter” (197). This confuses both Ahn’s secretary when she makes the appointment, and Ko when she asks him to take her to her father’s office. Jisun offers her father...
