Summary

The next section is Barbara Meyer's testimony. She says others have claimed Katharina was responsible for the death of Barbara's mother. She denies this is true, saying her mother was an intelligent woman who would never have fallen for a trick of that kind. A church warden, Johan Bernhardt Buck, ordered Barbara to say Katharina killed her mother. He threatened to put her in jail if she refused. She says she will not say it because she fears “eternal damnation more than I fear the evils of men” (246). Helena Frisch testifies next. She was accused of being a witch and tortured, but refused to confess and was found innocent.
