Point of View

"Evernight" is written in first person from a limited perspective. The point of view is that of Bianca, a young vampire who doesn't fully understand that she is different from other teens. Because of this limited perspective the reader is kept in the dark about a key issue - that Bianca is a vampire - until the story is well underway. The suspense is built partly because of the prologue in which Bianca says she is in a burning building with Lucas and that vampires are waiting for her outside. The level of suspense continues to increase as it becomes more evident there is something wrong at the school. The first twist is that Bianca is a vampire, though an unusual one in that she was born rather than made. The second twist is that Lucas is a member of an organization that hunts vampires.
