Summary
In Chapter 21, Cowney rushes to pack but Jonathan says the soldiers will not allow Cowney to take his car, seeing it as insurance that he will return to the resort. Jonathan calls Bud who agrees to meet them. Cowney asks how Jonathan knew to show up after Lishie died. Jonathan reveals he and Lishie had stayed in touch. Lishie had asked Jonathan to talk to Bud (she feared he was making money illegally) and Jonathan happened to show up the day Lishie died. Cowney says he wrote to Lishie after Cowney Sr. died. Jonathan says Bud has “been through a lot” (169). Jonathan says he has some “pretty good” stories about Cowney Sr., and promises to tell Cowney sometime.
