"Living - Month Six, Day Two"
Narration describes the sudden fame experienced by Eva and her family - how uncomfortable her mother is about it, and how her father seems to be blossoming. She starts going to school, and is treated quite casually by both her teachers and her friends, although she does feel overwhelmed by the constant presence of so many people (see "Quotes," p. 76). One day, she has such a strong surge of feeling lost that she bursts free of her friends and races up a nearby statue, and realizes that she has been driven by some of Kelly's lingering instincts (see "Quotes," p. 79). Later, at dinner after her father has returned from a lecture tour, conversation turns to his continuing research - how there have been large numbers of human volunteers and how there are not...
