Summary
Chapter 6 is titled “Houses of Sand,” and it covers the years 1974 through 1977. The five children were again returned to Cookie. This time, Cookie had become involved in real estate and into a relationship with a man named Karl. When Camille was an infant, she was injured by a bus and Cookie won a lawsuit. She convinced the judge she needed the money released in order to buy a house. The house was elaborate and had a pool. Karl worked for an aerospace company and the family settled into a happy life for a short time. One day, Regina presented bicycles to Regina, Camille, and Cherie, and a Big Wheel for Norm, but Regina knew it was Karl she had to thank.
In June, the bank repossessed the house and Cookie moved them to a cheap rental nearby. She lost her job in real estate...
