Summary
In Chapter 11, as Mother’s health declines, Monk notices Lorraine is distracted by her relationship with Maynard. One night, Monk goes to see Marilyn after helping Mother to bed. He is surprised to find a man there, Clevon, and feels awkward. After he leaves, Marilyn comes out and explains that she and Clevon are “in the process of breaking up” (180).
Monk finds “a convalescence retreat” for Mother in Columbia, Maryland (180). However, he feels guilty thinking of her at the home. He calls Bill to say he found a place for Mother. Bill says he will chip in financially, but still sounds sad about his situation. Then Monk tells him they have another sister, explaining Father’s letter box.
While Monk waits around for Marilyn to call, Lorraine tells him she and Maynard are getting married. They want Monk to be the best man...
