Summary
In Chapter 19, Mike states that he had trouble keeping the things that happened to him after Ellie’s death straight in his mind. Greta took care of things for him. Dr. Shaw had talked to him quietly and slowly, making sure he understood what he was being told. The doctor believed Ellie had died of shock since there did not appear to be any fatal injuries from the fall.
A man testified at the inquest that he had seen Mrs. Lee in the area at the time of Ellie’s death. Mrs. Lee had apparently left town and could not be found for questioning. The man said he recognized the gypsy by her red cloak. Mike was questioned about the relationship between himself, Ellie and Mrs. Lee. Mike said the gypsy had threatened Ellie several times. The coroner delayed making a decision...
